The course aims to enable operators to competently check, prepare and operate four machines. The course duration is typically 15 months. On completion candidates will be able to:
- Operate a range of plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Direct and guide other plant and vehicles, also known as marshalling.
- Interact and understand the roles of a wide range of different stakeholders including customers, contractors, members of the public, supervisors, other trades/occupations and more.
This apprenticeship is a recommended pathway for those interested in a hands-on career in construction, particularly if you enjoy working with heavy machinery and have an interest in the mechanics of plant and equipment.
This apprenticeship combines practical, on-the-job experience with classroom-based instruction. It is designed for individuals who want to gain the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to become a plant operator in construction, the built-environment, or infrastructure sectors.
Successful candidates will work on sites throughout the UK and will need to travel to and from the site either on a daily or weekly basis.
Candidates will work outdoors in all seasons, and depending on the project type (e.g. roadworks, rail maintenance), this may involve overnight, weekends, or antisocial hours.
